As Electric Vehicles (EVs) become increasingly popular, it’s natural to wonder what will happen to Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs). While EVs are great, PHEVs offer their own advantages.
The primary distinction between the two is their electric range. While most EVs have ranges over 250 miles, PHEVs have much shorter fully electric ranges, usually between 15 and 30 miles. While this sounds very short, it is enough to cover most commutes. Moreover, as more workplaces install Level 2 chargers for daytime charging, even more people are able to commute completely on battery power. That said, for longer trips, PHEVs’ gas engines offer a convenient solution allowing the vehicles to operate like regular gas cars. This means no special routing to find fast chargers or waiting for your car to charge; just fill up the tank and go.
PHEVs become even more practical when you install a Level 2 charger at home. Level 2 chargers can fully restore a PHEVs full range in as little as an hour. This means that you can recharge between errands and rely even less on the gas engine. Consequently, this benefits the environment and your wallet.
